PartnerStack vs Rewardful

PartnerStack supports first-party tracking, but its core architecture is still rooted in traditional affiliate referral links and browser-based cookies. You can implement tracking via a JavaScript snippet, or server-to-server setup on your own domain (recommended). You want to choose the server-to-sever implementation so that you get more reliability and no bounce hops with Safari, iOS and other modern browsers.

PartnerStack centralizes commission payouts, collects W-8/W-9 forms, and issues 1099-NECs when you use PartnerStack-managed payments. However, it also allows partners to route payouts through Stripe or PayPal. In those cases, Stripe or PayPal (not PartnerStack) are responsible for tax form collection and 1099 issuance. In practice, if you are using PartnerStack, it makes the most sense to use PartnerStack for payments to keep payouts and tax compliance fully consolidated.

PartnerStack offers a strong partner experience overall. The unified login and built-in marketplace make it easy to manage affiliates and payments in one place. The main drawback is payouts on the affiliate side: partners have to manually trigger withdrawals and pay small fees each time. Automatic payouts or a smoother withdrawal flow would significantly reduce friction and mental overhead for affiliates.

PartnerStack was an early leader in affiliate analytics UX, giving partners better visibility than legacy platforms. However, it does not support standard pass-through UTMs. Instead, it relies on subIDs, which are manual, non-intuitive URL parameters that many partners (including us) simply do not use. As a result, attribution breaks down at the content level, and it is difficult to get truly granular insight into which specific pages, posts, or campaigns are driving conversions.

While PartnerStack’s UX is better than many legacy tools, meaningful data is still buried and slow to surface. We used it for six years before even discovering the geo-tracking tab. Key insights are hidden across dozens of wide, dense tables, making exploration unintuitive and analysis more time-consuming than it should be.

Rewardful does a decent job at basic tracking. If all you care about is knowing whether a signup or conversion came from an affiliate link, it generally works fine, especially for simple Stripe based SaaS setups. Where it falls apart is depth. You cannot see which YouTube videos, blog posts, or campaigns are actually converting, which means you and your partners are mostly guessing about what is working. It tracks that something happened, but not why it happened. It's OK on the surface, but not strong enough to properly optimize or scale partnerships.

Payments & Tax Compliance is where Rewardful really struggles. It does not handle payouts in any meaningful way unless you opt into extra, bolted-on solutions. Affiliates are expected to invoice you manually, and you are stuck sending PayPal or ACH payments one by one while separately collecting tax forms and dealing with year-end compliance yourself. This creates a huge amount of unnecessary admin for both sides. The fact that Rewardful does not even use its own payout system for its affiliate program should tell you everything you need to know. It technically works, but it is inefficient and painful.

From a partner’s perspective, Rewardful is not enjoyable or helpful. The problem is that every program using Rewardful requires a separate login, which becomes a nightmare for anyone promoting more than a handful of companies. The reality is, we often forget about partners using Rewardful as they are all isolated on their own islands.

Rewardful’s analytics are shallow. You cannot see which specific pieces of content are driving conversions or revenue, which makes it almost impossible to improve performance over time. Both you and your partners are left flying blind, with no real insight into what is actually working. For serious affiliate or creator-led programs, this lack of visibility is a major limitation and actively holds growth back.

Rewardful is extremely barebones from the affiliate side. You can see basic clicks, leads, and conversions, but there is no EPC, no clear conversion rates, and no meaningful breakdowns. Nothing in the dashboard is actionable or helps an affiliate understand what to double down on. The overall experience signals a very basic, low-effort affiliate program rather than something built to be taken seriously or to actually drive performance.
