Firefox gives you more privacy but at the cost of fewer extensions and some sites not displaying right compared to Chromium.

Only use Chromium if you want to tinker with the raw browser code; for anything else, Firefox is the more practical pick between these two.

If you care about using browser extensions and having websites work exactly as intended, Chromium is far ahead. All the major browsers people actually use (like Chrome, Arc, Brave, and Edge) are built on Chromium, so you get the full set of Chrome extensions and basically never run into weird compatibility issues. Switching between Chromium browsers is simple, and your extensions, bookmarks, and features just carry over.

Firefox, on the other hand, is all about privacy and not being tied to Google, but you pay for that with a much smaller extension library and a higher chance that sites break or don't look right. Since Firefox runs on its own engine and has a tiny share of the market, web developers just don't prioritize it. Most people who try Firefox end up keeping a Chromium-based browser around anyway for stuff that doesn't work.

So if you want everything to just work and need access to all the extensions everyone else uses, Chromium (or any browser built on it) is the way to go. Firefox is only worth it if you're willing to trade off convenience and compatibility for privacy, and even then, you'll probably need a backup browser.
