Dia Browser is still in alpha (hasn't even yet entered Beta) and quite barebones currently. While it's also created by The Browser Company (TBC), makers of Arc Browser, you can tell that this was made to feel more like Google Chrome with AI capabilities at the core, instead of a more productivity/power-user focused browser.
We personally still prefer and use Arc Browser daily, and while we understand why TBC is going after the more general (less technical audience), it's just not what we're looking for in a browser.
We believe there are better options available in this category, read below to learn what they do well, and what they could do better. ⤵
AI won’t exist as an app. Or a button. It’ll be an entirely new environment — built on top of a web browser.
Dia Browser is the latest project from The Browser Company—the same team behind Arc Browser. Currently still in alpha (not even in beta yet), Dia is shaping up to be a much more minimal, AI-first browsing experience. It ditches the power-user layout and features of Arc in favor of something that feels way closer to a stripped-down Google Chrome, but with AI woven throughout the experience.
It’s clear this is TBC’s attempt to appeal to a broader, less technical audience—people who want a smarter browser, not necessarily a more customizable or productivity-focused one.
Dia seems tailor-made for the average consumer who wants a clean interface and some helpful AI enhancements, without needing to rethink how they browse the web. If Arc is for people who build systems and workflows around their browser, Dia is for people who just want to search something, get help from AI, and move on.
It’s also probably a better on-ramp for folks who find Arc’s layout intimidating or “too much.”
Dia is currently free, but it’s in an invite-only alpha with a waitlist. So unless you’ve got early access, you’ll need to request an invite and give it some time, or find someone on X that is willing to give away one of their invites.
No word yet on whether it’ll stay free or introduce premium tiers in the future, but for now, access is the only barrier. That said, it's likely to stay a free product as they are trying to target a broader audience, one that is quite unlikely to pay for a browser.
While it’s exciting to see The Browser Company continue to innovate, Dia just isn’t for us (at-least not yet). It’s a nice idea and could be a great fit for more casual users who want an AI assistant baked into their browser—but for anyone who values power, structure, and deep customization, Arc Browser is still the clear winner.
We’ll keep an eye on Dia as it matures, but for now, Arc remains our daily driver and our top recommendation.
