Link Shortening
We're on the precipice of a huge new trend…
It has to do with COVID, TV, and Food.
Let me explain...
Neilson rankings came out and announced:
YouTube gets more TV watch time than Netflix
YouTube beat NETFLIX 🤯
Because of this, you may have noticed that QR codes are being used in YouTube videos from top creators.
Why? It has to do with Money.
Creators primarily generate revenue from:
- Sponsorships
- Affiliate
- Merch
All things that require clicking links.
How's a sponsor going to track ROAS (return on ad spend) if YouTube TV doesn't allow for clicking links?
Simple Answer:
Smartphones
(Believe it or not, Gen Z is actually scrolling TikTok while watching YouTube on the TV) 😅
The part no one's talking about:
COVID has trained us not to hate QR codes.
How? Food.
Our favorite restaurants moved to QR codes for a contactless way to order/pay to stop the spread.
Think about it for a moment…
- Before COVID, how often did you scan a QR code?
- How about now?
This trend is here to stay.
We tested this theory with our last YouTube video and we're already seeing an uptick in clicks via QR scans.
If you're curious how we set this up, let me know and I'll write a dedicated post about it.
