Viktor vs Town: How They Compare

Viktor is our all-around AI employee. Just add him to Slack (or Microsoft Teams) and he will proactively jump into your conversations and suggest work that he can take off your plate. He is a shared employee across your entire team, understanding and keeping context in memory from what everyone is working on.

For example, if our sales and marketing teams are working in different channels and Viktor notices their work overlaps, he will jump in to bridge that gap. It's like having the smartest employee on your team. At this point, we've been using Viktor for 6+ months and can't see ourselves working without him.

Town on the other hand is an entirely different experience. It's a personal AI work assistant. You get to name your assistant and give it a mascot (mine's name is Evie 🦉). Instead of the entire team sharing one AI employee, everyone gets their own assistant. Then through Town's threads within the app, Townies can collaborate on projects.

For example, you can ask your Townies to coordinate a meeting and find a time that suits everyone. Or you can ask someone's Townie for insights or feedback. Since everyone trains their own Townie, they have special knowledge about their person.

Viktor is for startups, scaling businesses, usually you have 2+ team members and growing and you want an AI employee to help across all your work. We use Viktor for help with: SEO audits, writing code for this website (engineering), HR, marketing research, team collaboration.

Final Verdict

Both Viktor and Town are great, just in entirely different ways.

Viktor is core to our team as an employee that helps everyone, while my Townie is specifically trained to help me get things off my plate.

Since Viktor is where your team already works, it was easier for our entire team to adopt instantly, while with Town everyone had to set it up on their own and get into the habit of using it, which has made overall team adoption more difficult.

I work with Viktor in Slack daily, he's integrated with our CMS for our website and most of our other tools, so I rely on him a lot. But I also rely on Town more for things like clearing out my inbox, following up with people, chasing invoices, scheduling, drafting emails, outreach, etc.

If you have a team that is Slack or Teams heavy, definitely add Viktor to your workspace and see what happens. Just see. You'll be impressed.

If don't use Slack and you want an AI work assistant to help with emails, relationships, scheduling, then Town will be more helpful.

FAQs

Both Viktor and Town work in Slack. What's the difference?

Viktor was built initially for Slack, so their team has invested extensively in getting this experience to be as helpful as possible. Viktor is proactive, so it monitors conversations and jumps in when he thinks he can be helpful. The team has worked a lot on figuring out the balance of what is overly helpful vs just right. Of course, if you want Viktor to instantly jump in, he will do that too if you @viktor. Viktor also has its own cloud computer, so it can go off and execute work you give it right from Slack. Finally, it integrates with almost 10,000 apps, so any information you need across any of your tools can be pulled quickly.

Town's Slack connection is newer and less collaborative compared to Viktor. Town is not proactive so it will never jump in unless you @mention it.

When you do @mention Town in Slack, (at the moment) you cannot mention another team member's Townie in Slack. So while you can get your Townie to help out, if your Townie has specific information, another team member cannot trigger it to respond on your behalf in Slack. That said, the entire experience is way more collaborative if you use the Town app. Within the Town app, I can ask my co-worker's Townie questions.
