Safari gives you a stable, familiar experience with reliable battery life and syncing if you use Apple devices, while Shift just feels like a Chrome add-on that hasn't changed much in years.

Only use Shift if you need its specific account switching, but Safari is the clear pick for reliability and everyday browsing.

Editor's Verdict

Editor's Verdict

If you care about a stable, familiar browsing experience and use Apple devices, Safari is the clear pick. Its main advantage is the seamless integration with Apple's hardware, giving you great battery life and effortless syncing across Mac, iPhone, and iPad. The interface is plain and rarely changes, but that's intentional, it's all about reliability and not surprising you.

Shift, on the other hand, is basically a Chrome wrapper focused on account switching and sidebar app pinning. It tries to be a productivity browser but doesn't really innovate beyond what you can already get with Chrome plus a few extensions. It feels outdated and doesn't offer enough to justify switching from a mainstream browser.

Unless you specifically need Shift's sidebar for pinned apps and constant account switching, and don't mind using something that feels like an add-on rather than a full browser, Safari is the better choice for almost everyone, especially if you're in the Apple ecosystem and want things to just work. Shift only makes sense if your entire workflow revolves around juggling multiple accounts in one place and you don't care about missing out on modern browser features or polish. For everyone else, stick with Safari.
