Comparison Summary

Safari gives you a reliable, familiar experience with good battery life and smooth syncing if you use Apple devices, while Chromium is just the raw codebase with none of the features or polish found in the browsers built from it.

Only use Chromium if you have a specific need to tinker with browser foundations; otherwise, Safari is the practical choice.

Editor's Verdict

Editor's Verdict

If you want a browser you can actually use day to day, Safari is your only real choice here. Chromium is just the raw engine behind browsers like Chrome, Arc, Brave, and Edge, but running it directly doesn't give you any of the features, polish, or conveniences you expect from a finished browser. Unless you're a developer or someone who wants to tinker with the underlying codebase itself, Chromium won't do anything for you.

Safari, on the other hand, is stable, familiar, and especially smooth if you're deep in the Apple ecosystem. It's boring and lacks the excitement or productivity boosts you'd get from newer browsers, but at least it actually works as a browser out of the box.

So if you're choosing between the two for actual browsing, Safari is the only one that makes sense. Chromium is just the skeleton under the skin of other browsers, not something most people should bother using directly.
