Editor's Verdict

Editor's Verdict

Rize actually nails automatic time tracking for solo productivity, making setup and daily use almost invisible. It sorts most of your browser time by site with its extension, sends you sharp habit reports, and requires almost no effort once you've set up a few rules. The catch is, the more granular or client-specific you try to get, the more it breaks down, inaccuracies creep in fast, and anything beyond personal use feels bolted on and half-baked.

Timely tries to do the same automatic tracking but falls short even for individuals. Instead of clear site or category breakdowns, it just dumps giant blocks of browser time and a mess of URLs for you to untangle manually. That means you spend more time deciphering your own activity, and it's just as bad (or worse) than old-school manual tracking. The supposed automation ends up feeling like extra work.

If you want automatic time tracking that actually works for your own productivity and habits, Rize is the only one that really delivers. Timely just makes things messier. Neither is good for teams or client work, but Rize at least gets solo tracking right.
