Comparison Summary

Muse, owned by Meta, gives you a free AI assistant that is super simple to use. Hermes is a free open source agent, but you need to be technical in order to use it. If you're not technical, we recommend skipping Hermes.

Editor's Verdict

Muse works out of the box through a familiar chat on your desktop, phone, or even WhatsApp It's SUPER simple an intuitive to use. If you can use Instagram or Facebook, you can use Muse. It's best if you want a personal assistant to research, shop, fill out forms, monitor recurring needs, and complete tasks. I've been delegating all my personal tasks recently to Muse, read our full Muse review for examples.

On the other hand, Hermes makes you install, configure, secure, and maintain the agent yourself. With that, Hermes only makes sense for technical users who specifically enjoy self-hosting and want control over the software, data, and configuration. In return, you take responsibility for hosting, model costs, security, reliability, troubleshooting, and sessions that may stall or freeze.

Personally, we're skipping Hermes and if you're a business we think you should too. If you're looking for a business AI agent, we recommend Viktor instead.
