What is Muse?

Muse is Meta's personal AI agent. The difference between Muse and an AI chatbot is that Muse is designed to actually complete tasks. It can browse the web, connect to apps, fill out forms, shop, create documents, monitor things, and keep working after you close the app. It will ask you to approve actions, so you don't need to worry about it running rogue.

Out of all the AI tools, Muse is the most simple to use. It was created for the everyday person, even your grandmother can probably use it! It's just one long chat, very similar to a text message thread. In fact, you can even use Muse right within WhatsApp and chat with it there. The entire experience is frictionless and very familiar.

Who is Muse for?

Muse is for people who want AI to take annoying personal tasks off their plate but don’t want to learn complicated automation software. If you can use Instagram or Meta, you can use Muse. It's extremely simple.

If you loved using IFTTT, Zapier, n8n for any personal automations, this is the future of that. No workflow builders, you just talk to it and tell it what you'd like it to help you with.

Ways Muse can help

Shopping: This is what I'll be using it for the most. Since it has access to Reels, I will be asking it to find videos of the products I am comparing so I can see them in action. I asked it to find me a mineral sunscreen that is EWG certified, that doesn't leave a white cast and to send me reels of people using it for proof. It did a great job, and I purchased its recommendation. Also, it can hunt for deals on Facebook Marketplace!
Returns: My husband (and Co Founder of Efficient App!) asked it to fill out a warranty form when one of our devices broke. Muse handled all of it.
Relationships: Muse can plan an outing for friends and message you all in a group!
Calendar & Bookings: Give it access to your calendar and it can find conflicts. I imagine for a family with children, this is incredible!

Key Features

Chatbot

Muse works through a chatbot. There is no fancy configuration, you don't need any technical expertise. Log-in with your Meta account and you're off to the races. You can configure your Muse by giving it a name. Mine is named Poppi and the avatar is a smart monkey.

Muse even works right inside WhatsApp.

One thing I noticed is that it kept one long continuous chat no matter what we were talking about. I prefer to separate out my requests (e.g. meal planning vs shopping for skincare vs clothes) so I just tell Muse to split out a new chat. But the idea is that if you hired an assistant, you'd just be chatting away in one long thread anyway.

Task Execution

Muse gets its own secure virtual computer and browser. This means it can log into websites (given you provide credentials) and fill out forms, shop, etc. That said, I tried using it with Amazon to file a return and Amazon blocked bots. Apparently this is something that has happened a lot now, as one of Amazon's revenue drivers is selling...ads! So if no human is looking at ads, thats not good for them. That's the working theory going around the internet right now anyway.

Amazon aside, I would play around with what you want it to do. I find Muse is quite fast and doesn't need hand holding.

Recurring Tasks and Monitoring

Muse can handle recurring tasks, so think about your week. What do you do weekly or monthly? Muse can potentially take over.

For example, we have a chef that meal-preps for us twice a week, and she needed a way to automatically send us invoices. We told her to use Muse to automatically create and send the invoices in the 1st of each month. She set it up with 2 chat messages, and now every month she just tells Muse how many hours she worked and it automatically sends the invoice to us. She was impressed, and most importantly she doesn't need to be bogged down with invoices.

You could also ask it to monitor prices, look for an appointment, track progress toward a goal, or check something every day without starting from scratch each time.

Is there a class you're trying to get into that is constantly full? Tickets to a show? An item you're waiting to go on sale? Use Muse!

This is one of the features I’m most excited about because I don't have any personal assistant trackers right now. I was going to use Grok Bot...but with Muse being free, it just doesn't make sense to not take advantage.

Is Muse safe?

Muse is owned by Meta, one of the largest companies today. With that, if there is someone that needs to invest in security and not getting hacked, it's them.

That said, you are giving Meta access to more information about you. Meta is an ads platform, so do not be surprised if you are talking to Muse about something and start seeing ads for that item. Especially since it's free, it does need to monetize somehow...

For example, if you are someone going through a vulnerable time like a breakup, you may start getting ads on Instagram or Meta from relationship coaches that make false promises about finding love. This is something I would be aware of! But right now, consider it something to be aware of rather than fact.

When I asked Muse if what I share with it will be used in targeted ads, and it said no. That said, terms may change so it's just something to be aware of given their existing business model.

That said, the more Muse knows about your preferences, accounts, schedule, and life, the more useful it can become. So I am comfortable with Muse knowing about 80% about me.

I would just start with using Muse for research and shopping.

Approval Controls and Activity History

Muse asks for approval before critical actions such as sending messages or making purchases. You can allow something once, allow it more broadly, or deny it.

You can also see what the agent has done and what it plans to do.

Secure Credential and Payment Handling

Meta says Muse stores your login credentials somewhere the agent itself cannot read them.

Muse can also create a one-time card number through Stripe’s Link instead of exposing your actual card details to the agent or merchant.

Pricing

Muse is currently free for most everyday use, with unspecified usage limits.

Meta doesn’t publish an exact number of free tasks or credits, or a clear schedule for when the allowance refreshes. Its official explanation simply says that once you reach the free limit, you can upgrade to a paid subscription or wait for your usage to refresh.
