With Morgen Calendar, you will get a better experience than Google Calendar/Outlook. It has a faster/more well-designed interface, and you also have the ability to add barebones tasks to Morgen. If you're starting to dabble with daily planning onto your calendar, Morgen is worth giving a shot.
For folks who are more serious about daily planning, make sure to also read about the other daily planners available on the market that are designed for task management first and foremost.
We believe there are better options available in this category, read below to learn what they do well, and what they could do better. ⤵
Turn to-dos into daily action plans.
Morgen Calendar falls in-between two categories. First and foremost, it's a calendar with a much more beautiful interface than Google Calendar, Outlook, or Apple Mail. If you're considering Morgen as a calendar for personal use, you can't go wrong as it will give you a much more elevated experience.
The second category Morgen toes the line with is being a daily planning tool. But when considering it as a daily planner tool, it's quite barebones compared to other daily planners on the market.
For example, if you're considering Morgen Calendar for personal use and basic task management and you don't have a ton of things to manage within the app, then it's worth giving a shot.
But if you're considering it for professional use, we recommend checking out tools like Motion (which offers AI auto-scheduling of tasks, and is a full-blown project manager—also is what we use here at Efficient App), Akiflow, or Sunsama. Even thought Morgen has started to build more professional features, it doesn't compare to the other tools we mentioned in terms of powering up your workflow.
When evaluating Morgen, we thought the user experience was quite swift, the the desktop app is intuitive and there was a minimal learning curve. The app works precisely as you'd expect.
Morgen has a free (albiet very basic) plan. Expect that you'll quickly want to upgrade to get access to unlimited calendars and task integrations with other tools. As a heads up, you also need to upgrade Morgen to get access to their mobile app (something we think is a miss 😬 because to really get the most out of a tool, desktop + phone continuity is important).
When looking at Morgen as a calendar, we were impressed. It has a beautiful UI/UX and just makes checking your calendar more enjoyable.
When looking at Morgen as a daily planner, we'd put it in the category of more so a "basic" daily planner for individuals or students (not so much professional use).
Basic because it comes with all the features you'd probably expect from a daily planner: calendar integration, time blocking via tasks on your calendar, and meeting scheduling (paid tier only for the latter). But also basic because it lacks many features that it's competitors like Motion, Akiflow, and Sunsama offer (see full Best Daily Planner Apps write-up for full comparison).
While Morgen has started to build some team features (e.g. helping you find the best time for your team to meet), it still feels quite barebones feature-wise compared to the other tools available out there and we couldn't imagine running our business workload on the tool.
Use Morgen if you want a better calendar than Google Calendar, Outlook, or Apple Calendar! Morgen is an immediate upgrade, even on the free tier. Firstly, you get a much more beautiful calendar with a better user experience. The team definitely invested in the design of Morgen, making it an enjoyable calendar to use.
Second, you can also easily add basic tasks and drag them onto your calendar, so your to-dos are baked right into the app (the experience is infinitely better than Google Tasks!).
Morgen works with Google Calendar, Outlook, and Apple Calendar. It also works with Mac, Windows, Linux, iOS, and Android, so no one is left out.
Morgen's task management features are barebones (e.g. you can add the name of a task + deadline), so most folks use it alongside a more comprehensive task tool like Todoist, ClickUp, Notion, or Linear. With that, you want to think of Morgen as your calendar + a tool that allows you to add tasks from third party tools to your calendar.
Sound familiar? Well, that's because it is. Akiflow and Sunsama have both very much dominated this space and have a ton of integrations with third party tools. This is one of the main reasons we've seen folk switch off of Morgen—they wanted more integrations that aren't currently offered yet.
Morgen's task scheduling is manual which means if you miss a deadline or your schedule shifts, you need to make the time each day to re-arrange your day (it looks like they might be working on a Dynamic Time Blocking feature that sounds like they will allow you to automatically schedule your to-dos).
This is what makes it tough though, because speaking from experience, when you need to "stay on top" of any task or project management tool, it's super easy to fall behind and before you know it your schedule is totally outdated.
You get access to the meeting scheduling feature on the paid tier of Morgen. With that, the meeting scheduler is very basic, as in, your guest can choose a meeting time and add a note when scheduling.
If you're a business that likes to ask a handful of questions when someone schedules a call with you (like us), you'll be left empty-handed as Morgen doesn't allow for any questions as a part of the scheduling process.
While Morgen is working on developing more professional/team features, it's not quite there yet compared to what else is available on the market. For instance, when scheduling team meetings, Morgen Calendar will show a ✅ or ❌ or 🟠 If it is a good, bad, or mediocre time to schedule a meeting with your team mates based on their schedules. That said, this is a manual feature, while tools like Reclaim automatically do this.
We'd recommend Morgen more for individuals who wanta better calendar, or individuals who have a handful of tasks to get done (especially personal tasks) instead of diving into it as a team.
If you want a full-fledged daily planner to serve as the power horse to your work or business, we'd recommend checking out Motion, Akiflow, or Sunsama.
Morgen Assist allows you to create custom workflows. For example, the Morgen Assist "Team Focus" feature reschedules your team's flexible meetings to decrease staggered meetings, and instead give team members more time for focus work.
Another Morgen Assist feature is adding travel time to and from events. This is pretty cool, although there is a ton of room for error as it only calculates the distance based on the address you "typically leave from", so if you're in a different part of town, the estimated travel time will be incorrect.
It looks like Morgen Assist is where Morgen Calendar is trying to differentiate themselves a bit, although the workflows that currently exist are more or less baked into other daily planners out of the gate (e.g. Motion allows for travel time, buffer time between meetings, and calendar aggregation, and Reclaim pretty much owns the Team Meeting Optimizer space).
Overall, these are features that will surely come in handy, but we're just wanting to see a bit more from Morgen in terms of differentiation.
Morgen integrates with video conferencing tools like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Project/Task Management tools such as Notion, ClickUp, Linear, and Todoist.
If you're using another project management tool, you can try using Zapier to build a custom connection, but this is where most folks will start peeking at Akiflow or Sunsama that already have native integrations built in.
One thing we found incredibly strange was that Morgen restricts it's mobile app to paid users 🤔 To get into the habit of using a calendar, having it on your phone is quite essential, so to offer a free tier, but not allow customers to build the habit of mobile use, seems like a bit of a miss.
Nonetheless, if you're on a paid tier, Morgen has a iOS and Android app that will allow you to add calendar events and simple tasks.
Morgen has a free tier, although it's very restrictive (e.g. you can't access the mobile app, or scheduling links). You're probably going to want to upgrade pretty quickly to get the most out of the tool.
On the paid tier, Morgen comes in at $9 per month (billed yearly).
This would be considered a more affordable "daily planner" if that's the category you're looking at, but the lower cost also reflects the barebones features of the tool, so if you find yourself enjoying the daily planning process but feeling limited, definitely check out Motion, Akiflow, or Sunsama.
Or if you want to be the most productive from the get-go, we suggest you read our Best Daily Planner Apps write-up so you can pick the right app for you from the start.
Morgen is definitely a sleek calendar and good for basic tasks. If barebones is what you're looking for, would definitely say Morgen is worth it, especially for personal use or even if you're a student looking for a cost-effective calendar + task tool.
If you're after a professional daily planning tool that can act as a powerhouse to your projects, tasks, and meeting, would definitely recommend checking out this Best Daily Planning App write-up where we feature some of our other favorites like Motion (what we use!), Akiflow, and Sunsama.
We've tracked and verified the above companies are using this software in their team's stack.
