Legacy alternative for link shortening.
Bitly is an alternative for those who just need a basic way to shorten URLs and occasionally check on link performance, especially if you're already familiar with the Bitly brand.
Bu heads up, if you're not on a paid tier, heads up, they're running ads against your links. I can't tell you how many links I've clicked on from huge YouTubers or brands, only to get redirected to a spammy ad before my destination 😅
If your workflow depends on detailed analytics, branded links, or a modern interface, Bitly's limitations will be noticeable. The free plan is restrictive, and getting meaningful analytics history or custom domains requires moving to higher-priced tiers.
Basic redirect needs on a free plan.
Short.io is an alternative for those who only need to set up simple link redirects and want a free solution for low to moderate traffic. If your workflow just requires creating short links without any need for reporting or analytics, and your click volume stays under 50,000 per month, you won't need to pay a cent.
But the interface is dated and it can be slow and buggy, especially when trying to search or manage links. If you need accurate tracking or an easy-to-use dashboard, Short.io will likely frustrate you.
